A program offering a comprehensive analysis of California's no contest clause statute, focusing on the enforcement and challenges associated with these provisions. Attendees will gain insights into recent case law, drafting strategies, and litigation tactics, equipping them to navigate the complexities of trust and estate disputes effectively.

Understand the Legal Framework: Participants will gain a thorough understanding of California's no contest clause statute, including its scope, application, and the latest developments in case law.

Master Drafting Techniques: Attendees will learn practical strategies for drafting enforceable no contest clauses, ensuring they align with clients' intentions while minimizing the risk of litigation.

Develop Litigation Tactics: Participants will explore effective approaches to both challenging and defending no contest clauses in court, drawing on real-world examples and insights from experienced trial attorneys.


About Our Speakers:

DENISE E. CHAMBLISS is a shareholder with the law firm of Hoge, Fenton.  She is the founding chair of their Trust and Estate Litigation Practice Group. She maintains offices in their Pleasanton, San Jose and San Mateo locations.

Ms. Chambliss has over twenty-eight years of litigation experience, with a concentration in contested Trust and Estate disputes.  She has been recognized as a Super Lawyer and as a Best Lawyers in America for her litigation work.

Ms. Chambliss is currently a director of the non-profit Legal Assistance for Seniors, and a past President of the Tri-Valley Estate Planning Counsel, past President of the Eastern Alameda County Bar Association of Pleasanton, California, and a past Director of the Alameda County Bar Association.


She is a proud graduate of South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas.


ARIEL E. SINER is an associate attorney at Hoge Fenton, in the firm’s Estates and Trusts Group. Her practice centers around ensuring clients make informed and empowered decisions regarding their wealth transfers. She drafts estate plans, including complex tax planning for high-net worth individuals and their families if needed. Additionally, Ariel works with the Trust and Estate Litigation team to guide clients through the litigation process when estate plans—or the lack thereof—go bad. Ariel also has assisted the firm’s Corporate Group in entity formation and dissolution, and mergers and acquisitions.

Ariel frequently speaks to groups including the National Association of Realtors and U.C. Berkeley Extension courses on topics such as basic estate planning, trustee removal, entity type and selection, and will and trust contests.


Ariel is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Santa Clara Law Review and served as President of Women & Law. She is fluent in French, and conversational in German and Italian.
